Life in a Boarding House never stops to catch a breath. The impressive number of activities and opportunities ensures there is never a dull moment for the boys. This year has seen a new group of boys settle into the Hill Community. After learning the ropes from some of the senior members of the Hill, they have become valued contributors towards their houses.
The prestigious Wedderburn Cup has been strongly contested between the three boarding houses; Arthur Robinson, School and McMeckan. In the two rounds of competition so far, School House is leading the pack. This trophy sees each House play off against each other in a variety of sports including swimming, cricket, soccer, football, tennis and even tug-of-war.
The boys are very lucky to have access to the outstanding facilities provided on the Hill. Pool tables, computer rooms, TV common rooms, music rooms as well as the School pool, gym and ovals are put to regular use. Tutors regularly visit the Hill during prep time on weekdays to offer their help in English and Mathematics. This additonal help is highly valued by Year 12s. Mr Tim Bence, the Activities Officer, has been very busy organising weekend trips to Cowes. During Term 1, the first of this year’s snow trips to Mt Buller were in high demand. Other weekend activities also include frequent Boarders’ Socials with sister boarding schools and planned day trips into the city for the younger students.
During Term 2, the Year 10s have participated in weekly dancing classes with MLC and Korowa girls. They are all looking forward to their final dinner dance. It has been a very enthusiastic first semester on all levels for the boarders and we look forward to undertaking the second half of the year with the same commitment and enjoyment.
