Welcome to Scrum Club in 2011, the parents support group for promoting Scotch Rugby.
Scrum Club would like to welcome Jon Ryan, new teacher in charge of rugby at Scotch, to the Scotch Rugby family! Although Jon has only been in the role for a few months he has been extremely proactive and has been instrumental, amongst other initiatives, in the appointment of a Specialist Rugby Skills Coach at Scotch, Nigel Henare; we welcome Nigel and wish him success with all the Boys across all the year levels.

Scotchies @ Recent Rebel ‘Coaching Clinic’
Despite narrowly missing out on Finals last year Scotch Rugby had several positive outcomes in 2010. Notably the following Scotch College rugby players were selected in the Victorian Schools' Rugby Union representative squads for 2010:
| Under 14 | Under 16 | Under 17 |
|---|---|---|

The future of Scotch Rugby definitely looks promising with 8 Scotchies making the U14 VSRU side and the Scotch U13 team finishing off the season undefeated!
The Scrum Club had tremendous support from the Scotch Rugby families with membership numbers having increased in 2010. A warm invitation is extended to all Rugby families to join the Scrum Club (Membership Application Form). The annual fee of $50 per family enables the club to support Rugby at Scotch in a wide variety of ways – encouraging boys to achieve their full potential both as players and individuals, raising funds, organising events that unite the Scotch Rugby community, encouraging communication within Rugby organisations and the wider community, and promoting the good image of Rugby within and outside the Scotch community.
We do this by subsidising clinics and tours, facilitating specialist coaching, donating equipment, arranging tickets to international rugby events when possible, producing branded garments and signage, and by providing free sausages and drinks to all Scotch and opposition players after home games.
Finally our beloved game, the one they play in heaven, has a permanent home in Melbourne http://www.melbournerebels.com.au with the arrival of the Melbourne Rebels. Scotch Rugby is fortunate to have Gareth Delve http://www.melbournerebels.com.au/Team/Player/tabid/297/playerid/14/Default.aspx and Lawrie Weeks (Scotch Old Boy) http://www.melbournerebels.com.au/Team/Player/tabid/297/playerid/24/Default.aspx assigned to it.
This is part of the Rebels commitment to “grass roots” rugby in Melbourne and their 5 star Engagement Program http://www.melbournerebels.com.au/Community/5StarEngagementProgram.aspx. If you haven’t joined as a Rebels member for 2011 we encourage you to do so, AAMI is a great stadium and provides an electrifying atmosphere of Rugby on a Friday night.
Regular pre season training has commenced at Scotch for the year 10’s, 11’s & 12’s. Tim Fry recently emailed all the Scotch Rugby Boys, across all year levels, strongly urging them to join a local rugby club and suggesting that they get involved in their pre-season work. Melbourne Rugby Club http://www.melbournerugby.com.au, Boroondara Rugby Club http://www.boroondararugby.com.au, Harlequin Rugby Club http://www.quins.com.au/harlequins and Box Hill Rugby Club http://www.boxhillrugby.rugbynet.com.au are all in our "catchment area". All the clubs have registration days and training has already started.
The Pre Season Camp was a great success with some 80 Boys, 8 coaches, a dozen or so mothers and more sausages than one could get at a ‘Wurst Haus’ Laurie Wicks was also in attendance in the afternoon of the 1st day to spend some time with both groups of Boys.
Unfortunately the ‘heavens opened’on day 2 and the Camp had to be cancelled!
