The Ugandan Rugby 7 squad on the Meares Oval
Commonwealth Games fever hit Scotch in early March, when two Games teams trained at the School for the rugby sevens competition. The ground shook as the burly men from New Zealand and Uganda went through their paces in preparation for the keenly fought sevens competition.
Games organisers asked a number of Melbourne schools, including Scotch, Xavier, Trinity Grammar and Marcellin College, to make their grounds available for pre-Games training. In the lead-up period and during the Games, Scotch flew the Games flag on the flagpole next to the Australian flag, and signs were erected to designate Scotch as an official training venue.
