Remarkable ski results in an unremarkable season

This year the Junior School managed to produce remarkable skiing results from a rather unremarkable snow season.

With teams competing in cross-country skiing, alpine and skier X events and moguls, the group of 42 boys came home as overall Victorian champions in the boys’ Primary Division.

Andrew Fairley, our only cross-country competitor, came first in his event, while the Division 4 Alpine A team (Elliot Watkins, Nick Mursell, Jack Tivey and Tom Hamilton), came second in the overall team event.

The Division 5 Alpine A team (Andrew Fairley, Oscar Kudelka, Hamish Molnar and Nicholas Biggins) also came second in the overall team event. All of these boys earned an invitation to ski at the National Interschools Championships, held at Perisher Blue in September.

Other great performances included Division 5 Alpine B team (Angus Cronin-Gus, Mitchel Clark, Rupert Kudelka and Jordan Rozman) who came fourth overall, and the Division 5 Skier X A team (Andrew Fairley, Oscar Kudelka and Hamish Molnar) who came fourth overall. Each of these teams also went to the Nationals.

Our Nationals campaign proved to be a huge success. Not only did the boys achieve some excellent team results, but came home as overall Australian champions in the Junior Boys’ Division, a first for the Scotch College Junior School. The team results included Division 5 Alpine A Team winning gold and the Division 5 Skier X A Team winning bronze in their respective events.

Congratulations to our Snowsports team. With many young, very enthusiastic skiers the Junior School ski team has great depth for the future, and we look forward to another great season in 2007.

Awards for Year 5’s budding authors

Budding authors

This year the three Year 5 classes have been contributing stories, pictures and competition entries to a magazine called Jetsetter. This magazine profiles students and their achievements across Victoria. Some boys have won book prizes, CD prizes and also a prize for a family to visit the Melbourne Zoo. In term 4, Raphael Yip was a bit surprised to win a large spice rack, but his mother was no doubt delighted!

When the magazine is delivered every quarter, the boys are keen to check if their stories or photos have been included in the latest edition.
