Scotch was very well represented at the annual German Goethe Poetry Competition held at Donvale Christian School this year. Not even a broken leg could stop the boys from doing their best. They earned a number of prizes with two of our boys, one from both the Junior and Senior Schools, being invited to participate at the next level.
The contest is judged on several criteria: although pronunciation and intonation are extremely important, how students choose to interpret the poem by use of their voices also helps the judges to decide on a winner. This requirement also helps to ensure that non-native students are not discriminated against.
Congratulations to all the boys for their commitment and dedication: Paul Chantler, Leo Hurley, Andrew Scrinis (who competed with a broken leg), Nicholas Bernardo, Jack Acton, Edward Cliff, James Dawson-Smith, William Kunstler, Alexander Strathmore and Eric Saliwonczyk; and particular congratulations to our state finalists Alexander Strathmore (Year 7) and Nicholas Bernardo (Year 6). Sehr, sehr gut!
