The Scotch community was excited to hear that two Scotch boy’s were drafted to AFL clubs in the National draft on Saturday November 25th.
Nathan Djerrkura
Nathan was a member of the 2005/2006 1st XV111, who resided at Scotch as a boarder, as part of the schools indigenous exchange program, from Gove in the Northern Territory. An exciting, skillful and very tough midfielder he also represented NT at the U/18 national championships, and was selected in the APS combined team in 2006. He was selected by Geelong with pick 25 in the National Draft.
Nick Gill
Nick was in the class of 2000, he played as a high marking key forward in the 1st XV111 in 1999 and 2000, and was originally drafted by Melbourne in the 2000 pre season draft. After only being given one year to prove himself he was moved on by Melbourne but was picked up as a rookie by the Kangaroos and played with the Port Melbourne FC in the VFL. For the last two years he has been an outstanding performer at the North Adelaide FC in the SANFL. He was selected at pick 64 by the Adelaide Crows, as a mature age player. He should be commended for his persistence after several knock backs early in his career.
The Football department as well as the wider Scotch community would like to wish both these young men all the best as they move into the AFL system.
