A fast-paced, inspiring and exciting spiritual experience

Mission Week 2006

Scotch Mission Week 2006 – the eighth of its kind – included an amazing variety of innovative multimedia presentations, given to enthusiastic and very appreciative audiences in the Geoffrey McComas Theatre.

The eighth biennial Mission Week, held in June, was organised by the Mustard Team, a talented group of boys from various year levels.

Mission Week offers students an opportunity for self-discovery, and contemplation of issues all too often crowded out of their lives by study, sport, relationships and other life matters.

Participating in every presentation were a band, a disc jockey, a biblical story-teller, a singer, various interview guests (all current and former students), a graphic artist, and a host who brought everything together. Vox pop interviews were videotaped on a lounge chair in the middle of the Main Oval! In each session a select few boys were invited to the stage to participate in energising and entertaining competitive activities.

Sessions presented a key idea to which every component of the program contributed. In the first session this talented team presented the idea of creation and the goodness of the world God made. The second session balanced things, as we explored the confusion and frustration of life. Finally, we considered the hope Jesus offers us in the midst of the good, the bad and the ‘meaningless’ of life.

Boys were invited to explore Jesus’ explanation of life; and to chat to one another, to parents, chaplains, and to other young folk who are making the same journey by exploring the facilities at www.mustard.org.au.

Meanwhile, each Christian Education class was taken by a guest speaker, most of whom were young Old Scotch Boys, who were invited to explain why they were Christians and to answer questions from boys.

In the Junior School, a special guest artist illustrated his stories cartoon-style as he told them. The boys were fascinated and inspired.

During lunch hours, the band played, the singer sang, the DJ spun discs, sausages were sold and boys debated staff. On Thursday night there was an Amazing Grace Concert featuring James Morrison’s sensational music. It was a week to awaken and energise the spiritual senses.
