Nicholas Paltoglou and Alistair England |
Over the last three years, two members of the Scotch swimming and diving squads 'Alastair England and Nicholas Paltoglou' have each been recognised twice for their excellence and endeavour during the swimming seasons.
Alastair has won the Ashley Perelberg Award in 2004 and 2006, and Nicholas has won the Peter Earle Award in the same years.
In 1993, Ashley Perelberg ('92) died tragically while swimming in the Beaurepaire Pool at Melbourne University. He was in his first year at university, having just completed an outstanding five years at Scotch, where he excelled in sports, particularly swimming and water polo.
The boys of his year who had swum with Ashley at Scotch decided to donate a trophy in his memory, to be awarded at the end of each season to a Scotch swimmer who exemplifies Ashley's qualities of great spirit and endeavour as a team member of the Scotch College swimming team. Alastair England in Year 12 was judged to have best exemplified these qualities in both 2004 and 2006.
The Peter Earle Award for diving has been created in memory of Peter Earle, a much-loved member of the Scotch diving team until his tragic death in a road accident in February 2003. The award goes annually to a member of the diving squad who shows commitment to the team, attendance at training and a special enthusiasm for whatever he undertakes. Nicholas Paltoglou (now in Year 9) has received the Peter Earle Award for diving in 2004 and 2006.
Both boys are to be congratulated on their exemplary performance and effort, which has earned them these very special awards.
