Kristian Wheat (’01) took individual handicap honours at the Old Scotch Golf Day, held on Friday 9 June at Victoria Golf Club. Kristian on +4 tipped out runners-up Bruce Arnall and Leigh Dawborn (square).
Kristian also added more silverware to his trophy cabinet, winning the individual scratch with a 72, hitting the longest drive, and jointly winning the ‘10 years on’ and ‘secret six holes’ titles.
Other winners were: ‘50 years on’ – Bruce Arnall (square); ‘10 years on’ – Peter Creswell (tying with Kristian on +9 and just ahead of Grant Garrett and Leigh Dawborn, +8); ‘nearest the pin’ – Bob Bones; and ‘secret 6’ – John Hickman (tying with Kristian Wheat).
The weather was kind and the golf course was in good condition so everyone had an enjoyable day. It was good to see some new faces this year, including John Pizzey, John Beaurepaire, Richard Hume, Leighton Warwick, Bob Bones, Simon Bones, Peter Montgomery, Ian Rust, Kristian Wheat (yes, there’s that name again) and Tim Smith.
Some regulars were unable to attend, perhaps because they had already departed for trips away on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. We hope these players will return next year.
