The Old Scotch Music Club’s Concordis Chamber Choir has carried all before it this year, being named ABC Classic FM’s Victorian Choir of The Year in the station’s inaugural ‘Sing Out’ choir of the year competition, and representing Victoria in the competition’s national final.
Directed by Scotch’s Choral Director, Andrew Hunter, Concordis won the Victorian state final, held at the Melbourne Town Hall on 31 July, broadcast live nationally on ABC Classic FM. Five other state finals were also broadcast from around the nation, and three youth and three adult choirs – including Concordis – were selected to participate in the sold-out national final on 30 September in Sydney.
The competition has involved some 7,000 singers in more than 200 choirs from all states and territories.
Concordis is a mixed choir of young men and women, featuring 12 Young Old Boys as well as its assistant director and resident composer, Nicholas Buc (’99). Tune in to ABC 105.9 at 8pm on 30 September, to hear Concordis in the national final. It will be a high-quality night of choral music.
If you’d like to hear Concordis live, their next event will be their hugely popular Christmas concert at 8pm on 8 December at The Edge, Federation Square. Call 9810 4218 for more information.
