Having had 12 months of experience at School, Year 1 boys are experienced students who have definite ideas about what they like at School. For Great Scot, the boys were asked ‘what is the best thing about School?’

‘The best thing about School is that I have all my friends here, and we are now allowed on another playground.’

‘The best thing about School is writing. I love to write!’

‘The best thing about School is learning more things, like about insects! And I am really interested in bridges and tunnels.’

‘The best thing about School is being safe, being with the teachers and with you, Ms Dandie.’

‘The best thing about School is that we have a lot of subjects, and some of those subjects are harder than others.’

‘The best thing about School is that my friends are teaching me to play cricket.’

‘The best thing about School is word study, because we get to do lots of activities to learn the new words.’

‘The best thing about School is making new friends, because there are different boys in my class this year.’

‘The best thing about School is that School is the best place you can be, because you have lots of friends and you learn new things, and that makes your brain better. Then after you do Year 1, you get even more excited about going to your new class and meeting other new boys.’
