Words: Alan Lewis, Old Scotch Tennis Club
At the initiative of tennis coaches Barrie Burton, Keith Oatley and Peter Owen and progressed by Warwick Barry, Scotch has entered a team of students in the Tennis Victoria pennant competition. Played on Sunday afternoons, the competition began in April.
This move would not have got off the ground without the support of the Old Scotch Tennis Club (OSTC). The club affiliated with Tennis Victoria and registered the players under its name, to provide a home club for the Scotch players. It also helped financially.
OSTC president Colin Simpson said he was very pleased the club had supported this initiative. ‘I hope this will lead to more Scotch College pennant teams being formed, to help increase the interest among young old boys in playing tennis after leaving School,’ Colin said.
