Our newest Old Scotch club – the Heritage Club – is up and running, with the election of a president and a brand new committee.
At the club’s inaugural meeting in April, OSCA past president Bob Welch was elected president, and Pam Marshall, Peter Hawthorne, Keith Weymouth, Brian Cossar, Chris Selby Smith and Geoff Speed were elected to the committee.
The club will now embark wholeheartedly on its major objective – supporting and preserving the cultural heritage of Scotch College. To further this objective, the club will actively help the School archivist, Jim Mitchell, in collecting and managing the School’s historical memorabilia, documents and records.
For some years the School has been collecting available records and material in the archives, and this collection has been expanded to occupy two houses in Morrison Street. It is hoped that future planning will include improved archival storage facilities with controlled temperature and humidity, as well as display areas for our amazing collection of memorabilia. It is also hoped that plans will include facilities to allow Scotch students and the Scotch Family to attend presentations of our cultural heritage.
One of the infant club’s most important activities is the work of a number of volunteers, who sort and file material, research queries for information, and arrange displays of memorabilia in the archive museum, under Jim Mitchell’s guidance.
The club wants to expand the volunteer program, and welcomes enquiries or offers of help from any members of the Scotch Family. For more information, please contact Peter (Gus) Hawthorne on 5256 2221.
