No champagne, but an enjoyable season for our bowlers

Old Scotch Bowls Club

The Old Scotch Bowls Club began the 2006–07 season with the firm objective of retaining the Public School Old Boys’ Bowls Tournament trophy. This year, unfortunately, we weren’t able to achieve this objective.

The Old Scotch Bowls Club has about 75 members, who, although belonging to various bowling clubs in Victoria, meet around 12 times each season to play organised midweek competitive bowls against other clubs, many of whom are clubs formed by past students of other schools.

One important annual game stands out in our calendar, when 16 of our members join up as a team to play in the Public School Old Boys’ Bowls Tournament. This year the tournament was held at Kew Heights Bowling Club in April. Although we won the trophy last year, this year we were only able to finish fifth behind the winners, Old Xaverians.

However, it was once again an enjoyable season. New members included Stuart Balding (’49), Jim Dandie (’43), John Galbraith (’46) and Bill Grano (’41). We trust these Old Boys will have a long and happy association with us.

We average 24 bowlers each game, and we invite bowlers in the Scotch Family to join us in our happy social atmosphere. Please contact me on 9809 1054 or our secretary Keith Weymouth on 9817 1780 for more information.
