For many Scotch Family members, road cycling has always been a passion. Whether it’s rides up the hills of Sassafras or the weekly pilgrimage down Beach Road for a coffee, the sport has never been more popular, for healthy exercise and for extending social networks.
In response to road cycling’s rapidly increasing popularity, and as a way of formalising their own weekly cycling ritual, president Robert Luke (’03) and friends from the Class of 2003 have worked with OSCA to launch the Old Scotch Cycling Club.
With membership open to all current students, Old Boys, members of the Scotch Family and their friends, the club aims to enable road cycling enthusiasts of all levels to take part in regular rides and social events.
The club and committee invite all road cyclists from the Scotch community to attend their first official ride on Sunday 22 June, starting 9 am at the Scotch boatsheds. The ride will be followed by breakfast on the banks of the Yarra, providing an opportunity for riders to meet the committee and discuss membership and the club’s future activities.
With Australia’s Cadel Evans favourite for this year’s Tour de France in July, the club is looking forward to seeing a big peloton of riders to help them launch this latest addition to the OSCA network.
