Les Mis will draw on the interest and resources of the Scotch Family.
Words: Richard Beveridge
Planning is well under way for the Old Scotch Collegians’ production of Les Miserables. The opening night will be Friday 17 October, and the season of eight performances will run until Friday 24 October.
Les Misérables is a big show in theatrical terms, with a large cast of singers and actors and a popular dramatic music score. All performances will take place in the magnificent, state-of-the-art Geoffrey McComas Theatre in the James Forbes Academy.
The production will draw on the interest and resources of the wide Scotch Family network – former students, some current students and families. However, as this is an open audition, production members of the broader amateur theatrical community will be encouraged to audition. This will ensure that the cast, while remaining amateur, is of the highest quality possible.
As previously announced, we have been fortunate to secure the services of Alan Burrows as director of our production. Alan is one of Melbourne’s most experienced directors of amateur musicals and winner of the ‘Director of the Year’ awarded by the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria.
Alan joins John Ferguson (as Musical Director) and John Colvin (as Technical Director), ensuring that this will indeed be a remarkable production which will fully and expertly harness the professional facilities of the JFA. Set design is by Ben Shearer.
If you are interested in taking part in the production, please contact the producer, Richard Beveridge, on 0414 413 013 or (preferably) by email at rbevo@bigpond.net.au. GS
