During Term 2 Scotch Junior School boys participated in the National Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart, a great program that encourages children to try to enjoy physical activity while raising vital funds in support of the Heart Foundation’s life-saving work. The program was extremely successful, with the boy’s fitness levels increasing and also raising a total of $9,000. This is an outstanding achievement.
This year is the 25th birthday of the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart and, as a result, the Heart Foundation decided on 9 May to join schools throughout Australia in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people rope skipping at one time (multiple venues) for three minutes at 11.30am. The record for this activity was last broken in 2006 in the UK, with a total 7,632. About 140 grade 5 and 6 Scotch boys participated in this exciting event and helped skip Australia into the history books, with a total of 29,614 Australian school students skipping simultaneously for three minutes and smashing the old Guinness world record. The boys took part in this event with energy and enthusiasm. It was a fantastic achievement and so great to see students so eager and keen to help other people and improve their fitness levels at the same time. GS
