A group of Year 9 and Year 10 art students visited the Gasworks sculpture workshop in North Melbourne to see the process involved in creating a sculpture. They met artist Julie Squires, who has created a bronze sculpture to be erected outside the James Forbes Academy, and also met Old Boy Jim Derham (’56), who has commissioned the sculpture.
In term 1 a group of senior arts students visited Sydney on an art tour, designed to kick-start the students’ art folios and generate ideas for their year’s work.
The tour included a visit to famous artist Brett Whiteley’s studio in Surry Hills. The studio was the workplace and home of the artist, who died in 1992. The tour also took in the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Museum of Contemporary Art. GS
