The inaugural Old Scotch–Old Wesley Golf Day, held at Victoria Golf Club on Friday 16 May, was very successful, with Scotch emerging as trophy winners after a most competitive day.
Approximately 60 players teed off in perfect weather, with each school playing for their usual trophies – but for the first time we competed for the Clayton–Wagstaff Cup, decided on the combined scores of the top 15 players from each school.
The golf was followed by dinner and presentations at the club, with the highlight of the evening an after-dinner speech by Michael Clayton. We are very much indebted to Michael for giving his time freely for this inaugural event, and for his wonderful and enlightening speech following the presentation.
A booking has been made for Friday 15 May 2009 at Victoria Golf Club for the next Old Scotch–Wesley Golf Day.

Cameron McKenzie-McHarg (’98) and Drew Ginn, OAM, (’92) represented Australia at the Beijing Olympic Games in August. It was Cameron’s first Games, having been unlucky to miss out in 2004, and Drew’s third.
Cameron competed in the coxless fours and won a silver medal, and Drew won gold in the coxless pairs. Drew won gold at Atlanta in 1996 as a member of the legendary Oarsome Foursome crew, missed Sydney 2000 after sustaining a back injury, but came back brilliantly to win gold in the pairs at Athens in 2004.
Chris Riddell (’03) competed for Australia in the Under 23 VIII at the World Under 23 Championships in Brandenburg, Germany, in July. He joined Angus Tyers (’05) and Alex Scharp (’03) in the Under 23 team.
Simon Booth (’05) and James Adams (’05) were members of the Australian Universities team which competed in the World University Rowing Championships in Belgrade in August.
Congratulations to all these elite Old Boy rowers taking on the world in their chosen sport. A more comprehensive Olympic report will be included in the December edition of Great Scot.
