Brisk demand for artworks saw proceeds totalling $21,000 supplement to the Ken Field Fund, which supports the introduction of new and innovative programs to the existing visual and performing arts curriculum at Scotch.
Bob Wade
The intimate Keith Humble Auditorium in the James Forbes Academy served beautifully as the new home of the Ken Field Art Show. Well known watercolour artist, Bob Wade OAM (’49), officially opened the show on the eve of the October Family Day weekend in the presence of the Vice Principal, Head of Junior School and 100 guests. Bob recalled attending a careers night with his son more than 40 years ago where one mother questioned the Principal, Mr Colin Healey OBE, about the lack of established art programs at Scotch for boys who intended to make art their career. Healey responded, ‘Madam, here at Scotch we tend to regard art and politics as being in the same category. Not careers, merely hobbies!’ Times have changed. Any Scotch boy who has the ability and desire to develop in any branch of the Arts is offered wonderful opportunities by an encouraging and enthusiastic staff, supported by excellent facilities.
Many families attended the weekend show, enjoying the variety of art displayed. The Scotch College Foundation thanks the exhibiting artists, the Scotch maintenance department, and various supporters of the Arts at Scotch for their assistance in the success of the show.
Following the show, Bob Wade donated a watercolour painting of the Littlejohn Memorial Chapel (seen below) to the Scotch College Foundation. The total proceeds of the sale will grow the Ken Field Fund. Anyone interested in purchasing the painting should contact Rebecca Mortimert in the Development Office on 9810 4300 or email rebecca.mortimer@scotch.vic.edu.au.
