WORDS: Mr Tim Shearer
The Old Scotch Football Club 1st XVIII sits in 6th position with 2 matches remaining in the 2009 season, and cannot make the VAFA A section finals series. The club has found it difficult to field a consistent line up, and early performances reflected this situation. Solid wins against Old Ivanhoe, Old Brighton, Collegians and Old Essendon injected some much–needed life into the year, however disappointing losses to second–placed De La Salle and top of the table Old Xaverians has pushed the team out of the four.
The 2nd XVIII is enjoying a solid season, with ten wins and six losses at the time of writing. The 3rd XVIII (Under 19s) is having a strong year, with 11 wins and six losses after 17 rounds. Like the firsts, injuries and unavailability have had an impact on the team, but the boys are well placed to be part of the September action. Sadly, the 4th XVIII was forced to forfeit two matches in July, and the team sits in the relegation zone of the Club XVIII section. The Cardinals have had a stellar season in Club XVIII section 3 and competed in the finals.
Under the guidance of Don Larkin (’62), Mike Purnell (’70) and James Macmillan (’81) the club is currently conducting a strategic review as part of our process of continual improvement. All facets of the club will be reviewed and all stakeholders will have the opportunity to participate. On Saturday 1 August 2009 the club unveiled its new electronic scoreboard, kindly provided by the Bendigo Community Bank (Canterbury, Surrey Hills and Ashburton branches), and this represents another significant improvement to the facilities at the Camberwell Sportsground. The Annual Dinner Dance on Saturday 8 August was another huge success, and sincere thanks are extended to Pam Tummel, Sandra Dick, Jenni Allen, Mergay Parisi and Marie Mursell for their enthusiastic organisation of this wonderful event.
