Scotch College

President’s report

Affirming the Scotch vision of academic excellence through philanthropy and generosity of spirit.

Michael Robinson

Scotch College is fortunate to be part of a community committed to the mission of the school and its ongoing development and continued strength. Support of Scotch is apparent in the participation by the school’s extended family of grandparents, parents, Old Boys, staff, friends and those who seek to honour others through a gift to Scotch College. We thank all those whose gifts enable Scotch to provide an excellent, well-rounded education to generations of boys.

The staff at Scotch College is the heart of our remarkable School and the staff members appearing in this Annual Report are just some of the outstanding individuals who strive to nurture, guide and inspire students as they embark on this voyage of self discovery.

The Scotch College Foundation provides another ingredient that supports the development of our School. The Scotch community through its financial generosity and committed volunteer efforts has demonstrated its support for the work of the school. The amounts raised are critical to the continued success of Scotch College. Each of the contributors recognised in this Annual report stands for an individual decision which reinforces the work that Scotch does on behalf of its students.

In late 2009 Mrs Astrida Cooper resigned from Scotch College. She was appointed as a member of the Board of Trustees in November 2001 following great service to Scotch College as President of the Junior School Parents Association and as a member of the Committee responsible for the celebrations to mark the Sesquicentenary of the school in 2001. She served on the Board, including as Vice President, until July 2004 when she was appointed to a full time role as the Assistant Director of Development. Following the resignation of Alan Watkinson in July 2007 Astrida Cooper was appointed Acting Director of Development and so remained until late 2009. Her contribution to Scotch over many years has been truly outstanding.

In December 2009 we welcomed Mr John Da Cruz as the Director of Development for Scotch College. Mr Da Cruz arrives at Scotch following his role as Director of Development at Cranbrook School in Sydney for the past 9 years. Prior to Cranbrook he held the position of Director of Development for the International Paralympic Committee and Manager Sponsorship and Business Development with the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG).

In May 2009 Mr David Earle stepped down as Vice President of the Foundation and remains as a Board Member. We are delighted that Mr David Yu has accepted the role of Vice President. Mr David Yu brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Board and holds the position of Chairman Audit Committee.

It is with much appreciation that we thank, as they depart the Foundation Board, Mr Gordon Walker, Mr Cam Johnston and Mr Andrew Sutherland for their distinguished service and contribution to the school.

In August 2009 the Foundation Board was delighted to welcome Mr Colin Youren as a Foundation Board member.

Thank you again for affirming the Scotch vision of academic excellence through your generosity and for your role in strengthening the work of the entire Scotch community. GS
