A gem of a walk

WORDS: MR MURRAY HOOPER (’66)

On a beautiful, sunny, late spring morning, 16 Old Scotch bushwalkers left the Diamond Creek railway station under the guidance of our leader, Richard Piesse (’60). We followed the gentle trail beside the Diamond Creek as it meandered through the Eltham North Reserve on its way to the Yarra River. Bird life was prevalent in the trees along the creek and except for the occasional shout of ‘bicycle coming’ it was certainly a peaceful setting.

After lunch, we left the creek with some trepidation, as Richard had promised us ‘some hills’ to climb on the way to Montmorency. However through skilful research, Richard had found a route through back alleys, quiet side streets and reserves (and not too many hills) to have us arrive at an extremely good coffee shop in Montmorency.

For more information about the Bushwalking club, please contact the secretary, Jan Eager on 9857 5762.
