‘Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!' (Helen Keller)
MR JOHN MURPHY – FIRST XI CO-COACH
The 1st X1 had a most successful 2011/12 season, culminating in winning the premiership in the very last session of the season.
The team was superbly led by Captain Matt Mitchell (Year 12), whose level head and uncompromising team-first attitude was one of the cornerstones of our success.
The team showed great resilience throughout the season. Many games were in the balance, but our ability to win the big moments and build pressure became our trademark. As well as our Captain, special mention must also be made of James Rosewarne and Seb Armstrong (both Year 12). All three players were recognised for their superb seasons with selection in the combined APS team.
Our bowling attack was the most balanced and skilful a Scotch team has had since our last premiership in 2003. Frequently throughout the season the men with the ball found themselves bowling to our opposition twice in an effort to gain maximum outright points. Special mentions go to Seb Armstrong, Will Hays (Year 11), Ed Von Moger (Year 11), Jack Billings (Year 11), James Rosewarne and John McLaughlan (Year 12) as the mainstays of our bowling attack.
I wish to acknowledge and thank the ground staff at Scotch College for their hard work in producing facilities that are the envy of every other APS school.
Further, to the parents of our players – thank you for your ongoing support. Without it, our task of improving the person and the player is incredibly difficult.
The tireless efforts, research and innovative training methods of Ian Frazer, the Scotch College Director of Cricket Coaches and Co-Coach of the 1st X1, always challenged the group to improve continually. His peerless knowledge of cricket generally and technically is second to none. I am sure I speak on behalf of the Captain and the team when I say that this premiership would not have been possible without him.
Well done, Scotch!
