Would a former Parents’ and Friends’ Club interest you?

OSCA is seeking the Scotch Family’s views of the concept of a former Parents’ and Friends’ Club.

The concept of forming a former Parents’ and Friends’ Club affiliated with the Old Scotch Collegians’ Association has been discussed for many years. A steering committee was formed recently and is surveying OSCA members and other groups within the school community. The aim of the survey is to gauge the current level of interest in the proposed club, to ascertain what the club might offer prospective members, and to determine the type of participation that may appeal to them.

Some club members may wish to support the school by assisting a particular auxiliary or support group; some may appreciate the opportunity to attend a briefing by the Principal about the school’s programmes and community activities; some may wish to attend a major Scotch event such as the Annual Tattoo and Retreat Ceremony, the Foundation Day Concert or the Easter Breakfast. Others may simply wish to maintain friendships made when their sons were students at the school.

Club activities suggested to date include community service initiatives to enhance those started by the school in the Tiwi Islands, Kapumfi, Chitulika and Nepal; musical or drama events showcasing the talents of current and former students; a speakers’ program featuring former Scotch students; a volunteer mentoring program; an annual chapel service and group travel.

As envisaged at this stage, the common thread in membership would be a connection to Scotch College, with membership open to all past parents and to Old Boys, as ‘friends’ if they are not past parents, also to Old Boys’ partners and family members.
