On November 19 last year Sir James Balderstone ('39), former Chairman of the School Council, who is a patron of the HMS - HMAS Kanimbla Association, went to Geelong to present a model of her, on a long term loan from the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, to the Geelong Naval and Maritime Museum.
Sir James had served for 2.5 years on the Kanimbla during the war, both as an armed Merchant Cruiser (HMS) and as a landing ship (HMAS).
In his capacity as a member of the Council of the Australian War Memorial, Sir James was able to help arrange the loan of the model. The Kanimbla was built in 1935 in Belfast and was the only Australian Naval vessel to capture a Russian ship during World War II.
Sir James was wondering if any other Old Boys served on the Kanimbla and would welcome news sent through the Old Boys' Office. Telephone Leigh McGregor 9810 4302.
