Successful bowls season

As we review the 1998/99 bowls season, there are a number of highlights to record.

Eleven matches were planned for the year against other clubs, including four other Public Schools Old Boys - old Melbournians, Old Wesley, Old Caulfield and Old Xaverians.

Good wins were seconded against the 'dark blues', O.M.'s, Old Xavs, Old Wesley, Royal Melbourne Gold and M.C.C. The first match with Glenferrie Hill resulted in a draw - a most unusual event in bowls.

Ron Smyth (ex staff) has taken a good lead in the competition for the Best Team Player of the year. At the time of writing he has 38 points, and the remaining games for the year are unlikely to change the result.

The runner up will possibly come from Jack Willson ('37) 29 points, Oxley Jones ('30) 28 points, Manson Russel ('48) 26 points and Miller Goodwin ('47) 25 points, who lead the rest of the field.

The club now has a membership of 56 and would be pleased to welcome any new bowlers from the Scotch Family who would like to join. Please contact Secretary, Herb Gamble or the President, Manson Russel, who will be happy to supply full details of the plans for next season.
