The stained glass gift - Class of 99

Soon the Boykett Room in the Cardinal Pavilion will be enhanced with the gift of $12000 to the School from the Class of 1999, who have commissioned stained glass artist Ms Kate Howard to produce a series of three arched panels, that will be placed in three semi circular windows, overlooking the river.Kate Howard

The panels are based on a rowing eight, divided into sections, and fitted into the existing arched window format. It was no easy task to incorporate the design within this structure, and Ms Howard worked with Mr Greg Baker and Mr Tom Bowen, teacher in charge of rowing, to ensure the detail was correct, and the design was in keeping with the atmosphere of the building. During the construction of the panels, Ms Howard has been a source of inspiration and assistance for the Year 10 students, who have been trying their hand at stained glass as an art form.

Many visitors to the Family Day Art Show on October 9 were able to see one of the panels actually being constructed by Ms Howard. She is a trained secondary art teacher, and patiently spent almost equal time between working on her art piece, and explaining the concept behind the triptych, and the techniques used to create it.

The stained glass panels will be a wonderful addition to the Boykett Room and a focal point for the current group of Year 12 students to look back on, as their permanent mark in the School.
