Space was at a premium on Saturday October 9, as students, parents and friends of Scotch, jostled past each other to view the range of exciting art work on display.
The general reaction to the show was unanimous in approval of the high standard achieved by students at all levels. The junior Year 7 classes produced some very clever and amusing ceramic food and cartoon layouts, whilst the Year 8s had created an amazing array of pit fired, hand built coil pots. This was tangible evidence of the sound introduction they have had to working with clay in the new ceramic facility, aptly named Studio C.
The linocuts and paintings of the Year 9s and Year 10s created an interesting display, and demonstrated their knowledge of composition, design, and colour. The stained glass artist Ms Kate Howard, worked throughout the day on a panel, answering questions about the piece she is constructing for the Cardinal Pavilion.
A hike tent designed and made by Alex McPhie in Year 12, was a great point of interest, as was his fibre glass surfboard, complete with computer generated logos; created in the new 3D design Studio which was finished in June this year. Other works from senior art classes attracted attention, both with their inventiveness, and the level of professional quality achieved.
The new large format printer, which the Art Department obtained in July this year has been quickly put to good use. Students are producing very carefully controlled images, starting with digital camera photography, captured and manipulated with Photoshop and Illustrator software programmes. These large format posters and fine art pieces literally stopped people in their tracks with their visual impact.
