Scotch Scouts at Showtime

Camberwell Showtime - 'If you're happy and you know it….', will be well supported by Scotch College boys and staff.

Camberwell Showtime began in 1965 and this year celebrates its 36th consecutive production. It's an all-original production written by the Scouts and Guides of Boroondara. Each year the story, script, songs, designs, sets and more are written by a team of over 80. This year nine performances will be held in August, with an expected audience of 4,500.

Scouts at showtime The show is also the largest performing arts activity in Boroondara, with a cast of 160. Each cast member takes part in at least nine items, and is individually featured at least once. Behind the scenes, a further one hundred and twenty work in technical and administrative positions, or other areas such as promotions, catering and ushering. The average age of the cast is less than 15, with older members including Doug Lyons and Bruce Reid, taking positions on the production team. Mr Nick Browne (staff) is the Production-Movement coordinator, and Mat Judd ('97) is the Drama Coordinator.

Camberwell Showtime provides young people with a chance to work in live theatre and learn skills such as teamwork and self confidence.

Some past members have gone on later to develop their careers in theatre, television or the music industry.

This year's production is titled 'If you're happy and you know it….' It is about a world without games, toys, music and laughing with the rule- makers, the Killjoys. Then come the F-men who bring the fun back into the world. It's a show full of great music and comedy for the whole family.

The show will be staged at the Phoenix Theatre, Deakin University, Burwood Highway, Burwood between Friday August 4 and Saturday August 12.

Tickets can be booked on 9808 8212. Many shows normally sell out, so book early!
