On Friday March 17 2000, a beautiful autumn Melbourne evening, a sell out crowd of 220 supporters of Scotch Rowing gathered to celebrate the achievements of its champions at the Royal South Yarra Tennis Club.
MC for the evening, Ross Campbell, used his great professional talents to co-ordinate stories of past highlights with video footage supplied by Lachie Fairbain and Greg Baker. Ross introduced twenty members of the Scotch Family who have represented Australia in rowing.
Our guests of honour, Judy Patching, Noel Donaldson and Drew Ginn all gave us different insights into preparing and competing at the Olympic Games with stories covering fifty years of achievements.
Drew Ginn held the audience spellbound as he re-lived winning the Head of the River in 1992 and his gold medal in 1996.
Special thanks go to the many generous supporters and the hard working Cardinal Club Committee who made the night such a memorable one.
One great of Scotch rowing commented that this was '... the best Scotch function ever!'
Can such a wonderful night ever be repeated?
