Despite the threatening skies above, the cross country event was held in wintery conditions at Fairview Park on Friday 8 May. A heavy downfall of rain just before the Year 6 event did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of all competitors. Fairview Park provided boys with a challenging course over different terrains; and provided spectators with an uninterrupted view of each race. The individual winners of each Year group race were:
Year 3 - Andrew Earle (Healey House)
Year 4 - William Lockwood (Waller)
Year 5 - George Dick (Healey)
Year 6 - Edward Whitehead (Waller)
Mr Peter Hawkins, Junior School Sportsmaster
Junior School musicians have been using computers to aid their learning for several years now. Late in Term One, sixteen computers in the Junior School Resource Centre were installed with 'Micrologic', thanks to the generosity of the Junior School Parents' Association.
This programme is an easy-to-use, powerful MIDI sequencer and notation system that gives students in Years 4-6 all the facilities of a professional recording studio. The boys will be able to create songs on a screen, arrange them and print them out. This will add a new dimension to their composition work and we look forward to seeing the impact upon the development of our young musicians.
Easter is an important part of religious art, and boys are involved in mastering skills about art techniques, as well as learning the relevance of Easter time. Year 2 boys, Tom Johnson, William Lester and Michael Haines are decorating paper mache chalices. These chalices represent the cup used by Jesus at the Last Supper. It is made from plastic bottles covered in paper mache, painted then decorated.
Year 5 boys are shown decorating Easter eggs, a time honoured tradition at Easter, dating back to the Middle Ages. These boys are collaging their Easter eggs into egg people then adding legs, arms and faces.
