Towards the end of last year, the Principal announced that the School Captain for 1998 would be Matthew Spargo.
Matthew entered Scotch in 1986 through the Junior School and in his Year 12 in 1997 was Vice Captain of the School. He was also the Senior CUO which was recognised at Speech Night with the award of the Peter Gration Prize for Outstanding Leadership in the Cadet Unit.
Academically, Matthew completed his VCE with a TER score of 96.35 and was offered a place in Commerce/Law at Melbourne University, which he has deferred until 1999. On the sports field Matthew has been a member of the APS athletics team (full colours) and was in the 2nds for both tennis and football. Since 1993 Matthew has been involved in many drama productions and has been awarded full Drama colours for his contribution to lighting.
Matthew has already shown himself to be an outstanding leader with a friendly and caring manner. He is respected and admired by both students and staff, and the school received news of his appointment with great delight.
At the first assembly for the year, Dr Donaldson announced the appointment of Paul Greening as the School Vice Captain for 1998. Paul has also recently been selected as the senior boarder (Head of the Hill) and he succeeds Matthew Spargo as the Senior CUO in the Cadet Unit. Paul arrived from Sale as a boarder in 1995, and in a very short period of time he has shown himself to be a real all-rounder.
Academically he was placed 8th in Year 11, has full colours in Athletics, played tennis and football in the 2nds and also achieved full colours in Music.
Paul is an extremely well organised and thoroughly committed Scotch Collegian and he will provide excellent support for Matthew.
The school looks forward with confidence to the leadership to be provided in 1998 by Matthew and Paul, and the team of School Prefects and School Officers.
