My Olympic torch experience began when I was nominated for my achievement in the fields of athletics and cross-country running. As a Junior athlete, I was fortunate enough to win a number of State and National titles in cross-country and middle distance track events. This led to me competing in the World Junior and World Student cross-country championships in Hungary, 1994 and Portugal, 1996.

My leg of the torch relay was in the centre of a small township called Ararat, in the Western District. I was selected to run in Ararat because I was raised on a farm nearby where my parents still reside. Being part of an event that has an impact on people all around the globe was very special. It was amazing to see all of the people in this small township come out and support the relay, bringing the whole community together.

Peter Warner

Peter was an enthusiastic torch bearer. He grew up in Burwood and joined the Camberwell CC as a youngster. He has been involved with the club ever since. An outstanding administrator, he led the development of Junior Cricket in the club. As President he oversaw the merger with the Collingwood Club to form the Camberwell Magpies. He has been heavily involved with the OS Footy Club. He is the father of Old Boys Stephen, David and Anthony. A worthy torch bearer.
