The new cricket season for 2003/2004 is nearly here again and the Old Scotch Cricket Club is looking to return to the finals after a couple of seasons absence. Our Club AGM will be held at the end of August with all looking forward to the new season. The MCC have confirmed their commitment to the competition and with the advert of umpires, a one-day fixture, and re-newed excitement, the Club XI looks set for a big season. In the off season, Old Scotch Cricket has managed to form an arrangement with the Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club, which will see the club play some home games at Camberwell's home ground.
During Easter 2003 the club ventured to Sydney, to play the Sydney Scots in the 50th Easter. Old Scotch with a great victory on a wet Easter Monday managed to win the 'Ashes' back. Some fine batting from Andrew Ladbury and Donald Parton helped set a reasonable total. Good bowling from Al Jones with 4 wickets, and supported by Gary Bennett with 3 wickets brought home the Ashes. As usual the weekend was extremely successful with all enjoying good cricket and good company (shame about the terrible Sydney weather) and a fantastic Monday night dinner at Easts Rugby Club highlighted the weekend and the 50th clash between the two schools.
Training is held throughout the season on the Rugby oval from 5:30 pm onwards every Thursday. The club is always keen for new players and welcomes anybody in the Scotch community to attend training on Thursdays. Pre-season training will commence towards the end of September.
This year the Reds-Blues match will be played on 20 December on the Main Oval at the School.
