Drawing the line

At the close of term two, after the mid-year examinations, the Art Department ran a costume drawing day in Studio A.

This day was the first of several planned to take place before the end of the year. A model was hired and the studio set up with the department easels around the perimeter of the room.

As each class came in, they were able to undertake a series of drawings using the large boards and experience working directly from life. Classes, ranged from Year Seven to Year Eleven.

Costume Drawing

The day was a great success with several students commenting that it was very interesting to try and draw a person sitting in front of them.

The Ken Field Memorial Fund supported this undertaking on behalf of the Art Department.

During the Term break several senior boys took the opportunity to work on the development of short films and claymation animations, using the digital video camera. Their efforts will be on show during the Annual Student Art Show held in October. This year it will be extended to open on October 7, running through to conclude on Family Day on October 9.

Also on display will be some work on WEB site design, created using the new computer equipment in the Design Studio.

Mr Mark Mason our specialist in ceramics, kept busy developing an outdoor top-hat kiln which will be located in the outdoor kiln area at the rear of the canoe huts, near the Boat Shed. This will be constructed over the next few months and hopefully will be in commission for the last weeks of Term four.

The Year Twelve Art Students travelled to Sydney in August, to visit the Art Gallery of New South Wales, as well as the Brett Whitely Studio in Paddington. They had the opportunity to see several of the sections of the 'Australia Perspector' Show.

This is a contemporary art show based on the politics and reassessment of our national life as we approach the millennium.'
