School athletes shine for Old Boys in State titles

The OS Athletics Club has found a bright new star in sixteen year old Andrew Krumins.

In his first full season of track and field, Andrew has run several outstanding times over 400m and 800m, culminating in a brilliant 1:57.45 to win the Victorian under 17 800m championship.

Athletes Several other juniors, all current students, have excelled on the track during the summer. Andrew Barker and Nick Miller both won silver medals at the State underage titles, Andrew in the under 18 800m and Nick in the under 17 3000m. They have followed the lead of school captain, Tom Cade, in improving their performances by competing with Old Scotch throughout the summer.

Old Scotch is enjoying a highly successful season of track and field. Its three senior teams is about to contest the finals at Box Hill athletic track, making it arguably the strongest club at the venue. The club's success can be largely attributed to its core of enthusiastic young athletes, including David Johnston ('98), James Beaurepaire ('98), Tom Gray ('99), Charlie and John Feddersen ('98 and '99), Andrew Steel ('98) and Michael Good ('98). Another bonus has been the successful return of 1997 school athletics captain David Burke.

Individual highlights during the season have included another senior 400m State title to Cam Mackenzie ('87) at the ripe old age of thirty. Cam has now won this title in three of the last four years, a wonderful achievement. Dave Johnston took a silver medal in the under twenty decathlon.

The winter cross country season will run from March to September, and, as usual, Mark Purvis and Andrew Simm are keen to hear from prospective recruits of all ages and abilities. Old Scotch will also be fielding a women's team in this year's competition. Visit the club's website at http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Track/2423.
