The cricket season 2000/2001 for Old Scotch Collegians' Cricket Club is reaching its conclusion with one team successfully making it into the final four and the other finishing mid field.
The Reds will take on Haileybury in a traditional battle in the semi final, hoping to reach the Grand Final to play Caulfield or Xavier.
On field this season the Reds only lost two games, which enabled them to finish third on the ladder. James Parton led the way with 404 runs, with Donald Parton and Robert Parton also making handy contributions with the bat.
Gary Bennett once again dominated the bowling taking 28 wickets, with Evan Hunter 21 wickets, and Al Jones 13 wickets providing great support.
On field this season in the Blues was a mix of good wins and some disappointing losses. The team certainly took on a new look with many new players joining the club from the school.
Richard Craven, Richard Teasdale, Rob Josephs, and James Simon were all fine acquisitions to a side that already boosts the graceful Don McLennan (Captain) and man mountain Ollie Crane (Vice captain).
Finally, Old Scotch Collegians' Cricket Club was pleased to contribute to the 150th anniversary celebrations when the Reds and Blues played on Feb 18, to coincide with the Torch Relay day at the school.
On a special note, the MCC Club XI Competition has been ably run by John Bell ('60), and our thanks go to Belly for his tireless efforts and patience throughout a long season.
The club will head to Sydney over Easter for our traditional 'Ashes' series against Scots College, which always involves some great cricket as well as touring and catching up with mates regarding the past year.
