Towards the end of term 4 last year, the Bursar, Mr Neil Roberts, signed a contract with Impaq Pty Ltd for the provision of a virtual private network and a whole school intranet.
The contract provides for a high speed link to the internet for Scotch College, a software package called the Intranet Workbench that allows members of the Scotch community to provide content for the intranet, a virtual private network that allows authorized access to the network from outside the school and, the management of remote access services that will allow staff the ability to access the intranet from home.
During term 1 this year, a team headed by Dr Syd Boydell, Director of Educational Research and Development, has been working hard to define the structure of the intranet and to help teachers and departments prepare content.
Throughout term 2 it is expected that a significant number of educational resources will be available for students to access anywhere in the school. The provision of the intranet will greatly enhance the educational offerings to the students of Scotch College during 2001 and beyond.
Mr Neil Roberts signs the contract with Mr Matthew Hudspeth from Impaq with Mr Greg Baker looking on.
