By November 2001, Brendan Ferguson and Mark Simpson had completed an outstanding year of student leadership as School Captain and Vice Captain respectively. No sooner had the final celebratory events of our sesqui-centenary year been completed, than the search was on for the student leadership team for 2002.
Sam Webb will have the challenge of leading the students during the schools 151st year. Last year Sam was a School Prefect, Captain of Selby Smith and was the senior CUO of the Military Band. He has been an outstanding perfomer in the pool and was Captain of the Swimming team, which was once again crowned APS champions. At the recent Victorian Swimming Championships, Sam won two silver and three bronze medals and has qualified for the National Age Swimming Championships to be held in Sydney in April.
Sams all-round versatility has been apparent with his involvement in the Music School; in addition to his membership and leadership of the Military Band, he has played clarinet in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble since Year 8.
In a very busy Year 12, Sam was able to join the history tour In the steps of Monash and perhaps it was this tour that kindled his interest in studying VCE Australian History
in 2002.
Sam has deferred a place in Commerce/Arts at Melbourne University to assume the role of School Captain. He is an extremely friendly and approachable young man, who has already shown himself dedicated to the task of communicating with the large and diverse student population at Scotch.
Branko Ananijevski has been appointed as Vice Captain of the School. He entered Scotch in Year 7 and has had a very strong academ#ic record winning various prizes and awards and was placed 8th in Year 11 in 2001. Brankos study of German received a boost when he had the opportunity to experience an exchange to Germany in December 2000.
On the sporting field Branko has played cricket and now volleyball in the summer, while he represented the first XI in Soccer last season.
In the cadet unit Branko has been promoted to CUO and is the Company Commander of Bravo Company. He is highly organised and extremely efficient and yet retains very strong people skills.
Sam and Branko have quickly settled into their new roles, and are providing positive leadership to the talented school prefect and school officer body. They will lead with fine example and will continue the outstanding tradition established by their predecessors, whose names are listed on the Memorial Hall honour boards.
