Football Starts on 13 April

Footballers at Torquay

It’s often been said in sporting folklore that ‘Winning starts on Monday’ - that a well planned preparation for a match or season brings success. So when the Old Scotch Football Club season formally starts at home on April 13 at home against University Blues, club officials are hoping that their carefully crafted pre-season preparation will pay dividends and underpin a successful season.

‘If our pre-season activities are any indication then the club should have a bumper season’, commented Tim Shearer. Tim is in his third season as Joint President with the legendary Geoff ‘Sam’ Speed and both are as enthusiastic as ever and point to a number of encouraging signs for the new season:

– the excellent rapport with his players established by new senior coach
Dale Tapping, who will be assisted by Andrew Smith.
– a successful pre-season camp at Torquay, which was followed by good practice match form.
– a certain sell-out of the club’s first pre-match luncheon for the season on 27 April with special guest James Sutherland the CEO of the Australian Cricket Board.
– continuing support from sponsors led by K2 Asset Management and New Balance.

‘We want to build on the success of our Under 17 team which will now be called the Boroondara Cardinals and grow into a real family club’, Geoff added.
