Year 12 Luncheon

Brown, Price and Slade

The Annual Year 12 / Monthly Luncheon was again held at the RACV Rooftop Restaurant in the city . While the attendance was down on previous years the School Leavers of 2002 thoroughly enjoyed their first OSCA function.

Following his introduction the new OSCA President, Rob Wilson, welcomed the boys and hoped they will have a continuing role with their participation in a range of OSCA activities.

Director of Sports at Scotch and himself a famous AFL Footballer, Mr. Barry Price conducted an Interview of two 2001 Class members who played AFL football in their first year out from School.

Campell Brown and Will Slade told of hearing of their first selection to play and the thrill it engendered. Campbell went on to play 12 games during the season for Hawthorn following his debut against Adelaide in June, with Will getting into the Geelong side against St.Kilda and playing three other matches at the end of the year.

Barry asked some searching questions of the demands of AFL football in comparison with their previous experiences.

Both replied that they now understood the necessity for building their strength and fitness to compete in the elite competition.

The rigorous routine in training and the gym together with a comprehensive diet program being aimed to this end. They outlined the very disciplined approach that each club demanded of their players to achieve results.

Will commented on the methodical preparation and planning that 'Bomber' Thompson puts into advising the individual team members of their opponents and the team plan.

Campbell spoke of his thoughts when running onto the ground in Sydney and being matched on Barry Hall.

Each commented that there was less sledging than expected and it was ignored anyway as they recognised the professional approach that was required.

Each expressed optimism for their respective Clubs in 2003 and their personal desire to be stronger and more disciplined in team play in the coming year.

In closing the Luncheon President Rob thanked all for attending and extended Seasons Greetings to All.
