The SCRUM Club was formed in 1999 as a result of an initiative of a past parent, John Pizzey. In John's last year as a Scotch parent, he felt strongly that Rugby at Scotch would benefit from a support group.
This support group established a committee with office bearers of president, secretary, treasurer and a vice president for fund raising. In the two years it has been operating, it has raised in excess of $5,000. These funds are being returned to Scotch to benefit Rugby in different ways. These include:
The SCRUM Club is now affiliated with the Old Scotch Collegians' Association and to support the school in its 150th year the committee will stage a gala dinner on Friday, July 6, 2001. We are inviting our three ex-Wallabies, together with representatives of the ARU and the Victorian Rugby Union. Primarily this dinner will be for the enjoyment of Old Scotch boys who have played Rugby for the school or who have an interest in the game. In addition, we will invite the school staff who are involved with Rugby at Scotch, as well as parents of current Scotch players.
The significance of this date is that on Saturday, July 7 the Wallabies will be playing the British Lions at the Colonial Stadium in Melbourne. And on Sunday, July 8 there will be a friendly match between current Old Scotch Rugby players and other ex-APS boys. So, we are planning a "feast" of Rugby.
If you are interested in attending this dinner (we hope to get significant sponsorship to keep the cost of tickets at a reasonable level), could you please ring John Marshall on + 61 3 9288 5386 or email him at jgmarshall@kpmg.com.au.
