Buoyant Outlook at Old Scotch Football Club

Although Old Scotch Football Club's goal of a Season 2000 Premiership had proved elusive, the mood of the club was buoyant at its Annual General Meeting in November.

A highlight of proceedings was the election of Rob Fuller to Life Membership of the club, in recognition of his great contribution over many years.

The club had three teams which were competitive finalists and the birth of its new Under 17 team the Eastern Cardinals, who were runners-up in their competition, has forged a strategic link between the club and boys in their senior years at school.

That fact and the impressive effort of the Under 19s to reach their Section 1 Grand Final means that there are positive signs for the future.

The club has appointed Dale Tapping as senior coach for 2002. Dale is well regarded in VAFA circles and comes to the club from Old Brighton Grammarians. He succeeds Andrew Smith who did a superb job stepping into the breach, which had resulted from Brendan Mason's forced withdrawal on the eve of the season.

Joint Presidents Geoff Speed and Tim Shearer are confident about the club's prospects when season 2002 gets underway on April 20. 'We were delighted to see the enormous support given by our sponsors and the families of our younger players', Geoff said. And Tim was full of praise for Andrew Crow who won the club's coveted Senior Best and Fairest Award. 'Andrew was a schoolboy basketballer who has flourished as a footballer at Old Scotch', he added.
