Scotch College

Honour Book of Historical Football Sculpture

As part of the School's 150th Anniversary Celebrations, a special football sculpture was commissioned as a Centenary of Federation gift to the people of Victoria from the school communities of Scotch College and Melbourne Grammar School.

Paul Sheahan, Dr Donaldson, Mr Bruce Church On Thursday, 12 September 2002, a ceremony was held at the Gallery of Sport at the MCG when the Principal, Dr Gordon Donaldson, and the Headmaster of Melbourne Grammar School, Mr Paul Sheahan, presented to the Trustees of the MCC the Honour Book of Historical Football Sculpture.

The leather-bound, gold-embossed book made to archive quality standards, outlines the history of the first game of Australian Rules Football which was played between Scotch College and Melbourne Grammar School on 7 August 1858.

The book details the origin of the Cordner-Eggleston Cup, a perpetual trophy for the winner of the 1st XVIII Australian Football matches between the two schools and lists the results of all games played from 1858 to 2001.

The preparation of the book was undertaken as part of the Football Sculpture Project by a Committee chaired by Bruce Lithgow.
