Wayne Gillespie ('59) sadly passed away on 22 January, 2002. He attended Scotch and then went to The University of Melbourne to study Architecture.
Wayne's public life as an architect has been remarked on by many, including Ms Leonie Burke, former MLA and former Councillor, Mayor of the City of Prahran and Chair of its Planning Committee, who said: "Wayne was one of the first architects in the urban residential field to turn away from the English model towards a true Australian model of lots of light and lots of sun."
Wayne was a very successful Melbourne architect. A group of clients and friends who know his work are volunteering to produce a book on his work, to be available in 2004. The group includes: Peter Griffin, Susie Hamson (coordinators), Sandra Delves (production), Barbara Wenzel (writing), together with Kerry Gillespie (his wife), Alexis (his daughter) Marjorie Gillespie (his mother), Peter Paterson (his partner and builder), and others.
Dr Harry Uther Baker ('17) died shortly after his 102nd birthday. Till then he was the oldest surviving Old Scotch Collegian - one might say very old!
He had lived for many years in Cottesloe in WA - obviously conducive to longevity and had for many years attended OSCA dinners in WA.
Harry achieved the very rare distinction of living some of his life in each of three centuries.
John Cooper (past parent)
Whilst John might not have attended Scotch College as a student, he certainly made a fine contribution to it as a member of the Scotch Family. John's two boys Jim and Sandy went to the school. Through John's alliance with the Melbourne Scots he provided the Athol Brose for many an OSCA Annual Dinner. John's rendition of the "Ode to the Haggis" at the Dinner on the Main in 2001 will be fondly remembered by all who attended. Sadly John passed away in June this year at a tender age and condolences are extended to the Cooper family.
