Members of the Scotch Family have the opportunity this year to nominate a Year 12 boy or a member of the Class of 2000 to win the prestigious Perelberg Award.
To commemorate the life of Ashley Perelberg ('92), who tragically died at the age of 18, the Perelberg family has endowed an award to be presented annually to a member of the Scotch community, who demonstrates the true Scotch spirit, and who by his deeds, brings honour to the school, and service to the community.
The award was perpetuated with a significant work of art, in sterling silver, and displayed in the Lithgow Centre. A replica of a portion, also in silver, is presented to each year's winner on Speech Night.
The award is limited in alternate years to either students of Scotch or Old Boys.
The 1993 winner was schoolboy Sam Hume, with Teruma Naito the winner in 1995, Andrew Simm in 1997, and Paul Greening in 1999.
The inaugural award to an Old Boy went to Hugh Taylor; in 1994; in 1996 it went to Ian Stapleton, in 1998 to Rob Moodie, and in 2000 to David Penington.
Nominations are sought for a Year 12 boy or a member of the Class of 2000, who has contributed significantly to the physical, moral, spiritual or actual welfare of theirs or another community; or who has provided significant service to the school; or who has committed an act of bravery in the service of others and has thereby, or in some other way, demonstrated the 'true Scotch spirit'.
Nominations will be accepted from members of the Scotch Family and the wider community, and should be submitted on the form enclosed in this edition of Great Scot.
If space is insufficient, please include additional pages.
Submissions should be typewritten and all information necessary to support the nomination included. Nominations will be considered by a Perelberg Award committee, which will make recommendations to the Principal. The Principal will have the final decision regarding the recipient of the award, and reserves the right to make no award if he deems that no sufficiently worthy nomination has been received.
Nominations should be directed to
The Principal, Scotch College, Morrison Street, Hawthorn, 3122. Nominations will be accepted by the Principal's secretary until 4 pm on Friday 5 October 2001.
