In December 1996 Dr Tony Bird was elected and welcomed to the Scotch College Council.
Tony brings to the council a wide range of skills and interests which will be of great benefit to the school.
He originally trained as a chemist, and taught at university level for several years in Indonesia, prior to coming to Australia in 1986.
Tony is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church (formerly as associate minister of St John's, Warrnambool), and now lectures in Biblical Studies (Greek and New Testament) at the Presbyterian Theological College in Box Hill.
This year he has no formal responsibilities in teaching and is enjoying a sabbatical of study and research. Tony's wife Carole is a teacher (currently studying Information Management at RMIT) and they have two boys at Scotch (Yrs 11 & 12) and two girls at PLC (Yrs 7 & 9).
Tony's interests include cross country running and orienteering. He recently participated in the Scotch cross country camp at Cowes, and enjoys taking part, along with staff and students, in the summer orienteering series which Scotch dominates at school level.
