During the first three weeks of term three, the boys and staff of Year Six visited Lake Nillahcootie Camp for a series of memorable camping experiences. The boys were challenged to undertake and tackle physically challenging activities, whilst being provided with careful instruction, support and encouragement.
The camp began with a series of team iniatives and group tasks. Inventive and innovative ways were developed by boys to traverse fallen logs, lift tyres off poles, climb through tractor tyres and weave through spider's webs. It was necessary to develop sound support and encouragement networks, as these were considered essential skills for the numerous physically demanding tasks that were to be encountered in the days ahead.
Most of the really thrilling and adrenalin inducing tasks required the boys to be well above ground level and, on these occasions, full safety gear and detailed instruction were provided. Whilst most boys commenced their high ropes course, climbing tower climb, abseiling wall and flying fox with a considerable degree of apprehension, considerable peer support and encouragement saw many students achieve personal bests.
There were a wide variety of additional tasks completed on camp; canoeing, archery, campfire building, orienteering, night games, low ropes course, hut construction, table tennis and frolf. All boys enjoyed the camp food and the frequent and generous dips into each class's lolly bucket. The meals were good enough to keep even Mr Smith and Mr Gregory satisfied.
After a week full of excitement, challenges and personal achievement all students returned home safe, well, satisfied and exhausted. I'm sure that all Year Six students will look back on their time at camp with great fondness and success.
