During Term Two the Junior School set out to raise money for the Challenge Foundation.
This organization assists Victorian children and their families living with cancer and other life-threatening disorders.
The Junior School embarked on a seven week programme to support Challenge. The boys were involved in many fun activities, which they found extremely rewarding.
The first week of the campaign started with the boys in Year Three running a Chocolate Drive. Everyone was incredibly enthusiastic and the first orders of chocolate were sold within twenty-four hours. Needless to say, extra orders were required!
Week Two started with much excitement and anticipation. Boys from Year Two organized a Bad Hair Day. A gold coin donation was made for the privilege of wearing bad hair to school. Everyone was very creative with their hair-styles. We witnessed jelled, wigged, dyed, teased, wired and braided hair.
Following on from that, the Year Five boys decided to run a Footy Extravaganza Day. Once again, the boys were asked to contribute a gold coin, in return they were able to wear their favourite sporting clothes to school. They also participated in sports activities throughout the day. During the same week Prep embarked on a Homemade Treats Stall. Supplies sold out in record time!
Year Four made the decision to run Bob-a-Job week. The response from this activity was overwhelming. Just by offering to do a couple of extra jobs around the house, over $1500 was raised from this activity alone!
The boys were also rewarded for their huge efforts. The first Scotch College Pet Show was held. Year Six organized this special event. There were dogs, cats, rabbits, yabbies and many other animals. Boys could even bring their favourite non-living pet as well.
The last activities included a concert by The Police Band and World Cup Soccer. The Year One boys arranged the Police Band. Everyone danced, sang and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Finally the staff and boys appreciated the opportunity to participate in World Cup Soccer. Foozeball machines were used to create an atmosphere that was nearly a big as the A.F.L. Grand Final.
To mark the end of the Challenge Campaign an assembly was held to Shave the Head's Head. Throughout the seven week period, the Scotch Community had the opportunity to place silent donations to shave Mr Mason's head. Raphael Soon from Year Four donated the largest amount of money and enjoyed shaving Mr. Mason's head. Channel Nine personality Suzie Wilks generously volunteered her time and shaved the heads of other staff. Messrs. Leith, Strempel and Hawkins all had their heads shaved by Suzie.
A grand total of $15000 was raised. It was an enormous effort by everyone and a rewarding experience for the Junior School boys.
